Welcome to Evan and Emily's Laser Experiment!

Our experiment is unique. It has many features, such as the use of a laser pointer, that no group has ever used before. We are also testing something that has never been tested before: the index of refraction. Almost all of the other vision experiments in the past have taken pictures under water and above water, and compare the images, finding that the images underwater are 33% bigger, explaining the 1.33RIU (Refraction Index Units) of water. However, we are testing the refraction index of different substances. The refraction index is the scientific term for how much light bends. So we are testing how much light bends when going through different substances. We are doing this using a laser pointer and a diffraction grating, explained in greater detail as you venture further into this website. Enjoy!
